This is a feature story that I wrote about Laura Baker, a Virginia Commonwealth University field hockey player making the transition to collegiate coach, during my internship with the Athletic Communication Department at Virginia Commonwealth Univeristy.

- Public Relations Campaigns, with an A mark. This was the final class in the public relations major at Virginia Commonwealth University. This class provided a real client, in which we created a strategic plan book for the client’s organization.

My job duty was Videotaping the scout film during games. In the 2009 season my duties expanded, while interning with the university’s athletics communication department, I wrote the team’s blog, and produced post-game releases.

As a student assistant I was given the task of writing feature stories for the VCU athletics website. In addition to those articles I was also put in charge of the VCU field hockey blog “Runnin’ with the Rams”, a blog going over; the outcomes of games, high points in the season, individual and team accomplishments and providing readers information on the teams travel and away trips.
By working with the Athletic Communication office I was also given the opportunity to learn the program StatCrew while doing game day operations.

I was given tasks related to the promotion of the chapter by helping to create a brochure and work on the monthly E-Newsletter, also researching ways to bring the newsletter more up-to-speed with more current technology. I also assisted in the upkeep of the database used to keep track of the chapter’s constituents. Lastly I helped to plan and promote a fundraiser at Qdoba Mexican Grill to raise funds for the chapter.

As a member of Oakley retail sales I am held responsible for knowing all aspects of Oakley’s historical and technical information. I am responsible for having good customer relation skills, verbal communication. Another duty of the job is help in the organization of the sales floor and stock room.Pacific Sunwear, Richmond, Va. Sales Lead, 2003-2005I was in charge of opening procedures; counting the register, changing marketing, taking the deposit to the bank. I had to organize the sales floor, as well as the stock room/office. I had to maintain excellent verbal communication with managers, employees and customers.

Reevaluating Kindergarten

This is a profile story I did on Katherine Blackburn, a local Richmond Kindergarten teacher that is changing how her young students knowledge is being tested.
